Daily life is full of a level of activity that many take for granted. Interaction with coworkers, family, neighbors, and store clerks help make up a unique daily experience. Too often seniors are removed from many of these small but meaningful interactions. The Personal Expressions Activity Program ensures this doesn't happen and that residents are as engaged as they would like to be at their Carlton Senior Living community.
Before designing a personal activity profile, the staff assesses a resident's needs. We promote success by integrating staff, family and volunteers in to the development and implementation of a Personal Expressions program. The most important goal is that a resident doesn't feel scheduled or burdened by mindless, busy work. They have a choice to participate in a variety of stimuli that address their interests and nurture their independence. Our activities program creates a sense of personal fulfillment and is tailored to each resident's ability and lifestyle. Activities take place seven days a week throughout each day and into the evenings. Personal Expressions fosters growth in many areas, such as the following: MIND Intellectual – bookclubs, current events discussions Reminiscence/Life Storytelling – through games, relevant entertainment and music Educational – classes on computers, foreign languages, creative writing and more Volunteer Opportunities – allows others to benefit from our residents' life experiences Leadership – Residents enjoy putting their professional skills to work as meeting leaders, minute takers and in other life-skill opportunities BODY Physical – walking club, swimming, basic exercise Nature – gardening, bird watching, nature center visits SOUL Spiritual – religious services, religious study, chaplain's visits Social – parties, holiday celebrations, teas, bridge club Creative – arts & crafts, cooking, flower arranging, wood working Diversions – movies, trips, sports events, music Culture – art gallery visits, music recitals Inter-generational – joint activities with school children, mentoring program Senior living communities are not defined by their level of physical care alone. Only when outstanding physical care is combined with equally successful personal care, can a community truly say it is serving the needs of its residents.
